A Short Vortex Meditation

Out of all the vortex locations in and around Sedona, probably the busiest, primarily because of how easy it is to reach, is Airport Mesa.  Airport Mesa is not far from the heart of downtown Sedona and attracts many visitors.  While not as secluded as most of the other sacred places around Sedona, Airport Mesa has some interesting features and spiritual energy.

While the ancients visited the Oracle at Delphi in ancient Greece for guidance and direction, Airport Mesa can deliver the same experience.  Every time I have visited there, the experience unfolds in much the same way, although on each occasion, I walk away with something different.

While Airport Mesa usually attracts a crowd, it is still possible to find a spot to yourself to sit and meditate. Most often, there is a strong wind blowing and there is always a 360 degree panoramic view.  Sit down, quiet your mind and close your eyes.  Feel the wind and become one with it and listen to what the wind is saying to you.

When you open your eyes, look back into the wind and the scenery will unfold with many formations in view.  Each of those formations will speak, reminding you of something from the past that has influenced your life and brought you here to this moment.  Pause and reflect on each one, taking in the message and understanding what has been learned from each event.

After a while, direct your thoughts to the future and turn away from looking into the wind into the opposite direction looking away from the wind.  Many more formations come into view, each representing a point in the future.  Meditating on each for a while, each presents as an option.  Just as there were many paths from the past, there are many paths into the future.  All paths are possible and each offers a uniquely different experience.

Finally, allow your awareness to come back to the present and mindfulness.  The past is gone, yet we have the lessons learned from it as part of our being here in the present. The future holds many paths, yet none of them can ever be reached from anyplace other than the here and now, and in the present.  Whichever path we take into the future will not be determined by looking out into the future.  The wind of time will of course carry us there, although we can never ride the wind except in the here and now.

Even if you are only passing through Sedona, take a few minutes to stop by Airport Mesa as there is a powerful energy there that will speak to you every time.  If you have been there, please share your experiences as well.

Life is a vision, life is a quest.
