Getting There is a Breeze:
Flying into Cancun International Airport is surprisingly hassle-free. The new eGates for passport control make immigration a breeze, and customs is quick and efficient. Say goodbye to long lines and hello to your vacation!
Transportation Tip:
While Uber isn't available, taxis are plentiful. Be sure to agree on a price with your driver before you hop in, as taxis don't use meters. Expect to pay around 1000 pesos for a one-way trip from the airport to your resort.
Vidanta Riviera Maya: Your Home Away From Home:
We recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Vidanta Riviera Maya, a sprawling resort complex boasting several distinct properties, including the Mayan Palace, the Grand Mayan, The Bliss, and the Grand Luxe. We opted for the Grand Mayan, and it was pure luxury.
Our Grand Mayan Experience:
Our spacious one-bedroom suite easily accommodated four people (and could comfortably fit six with small children). While there are no ocean views, the lush jungle views from our balcony and private soaking pool were a welcome retreat. The suite featured a full kitchen, perfect for preparing snacks or light meals. Twice-daily maid service (though the evening service was a bit inconsistent) kept our room spotless.
Resort Highlights:
- Stunning Pools: The resort boasts several pools, but our favorite was the infinity pool, offering a serene escape from the crowds and noise often found at the main pool.
- Pristine Beach: The beach is beautiful, but be mindful of the rocky bottom when entering the water. Water shoes are recommended. Plenty of towels are readily available, a welcome touch!
- World-Class Spa: For those seeking ultimate relaxation, the spa at Vidanta Riviera Maya is an absolute must.
- Diverse Dining: From upscale Italian steakhouses and Asian restaurants to casual eateries and pizza delivery, Vidanta caters to every taste and budget. An on-site grocery store provides basic necessities, but be aware that prices are higher than your typical supermarket. For a more cost-effective option, consider ordering groceries online from several local chains and having them delivered.
Navigating the Resort:
The Vidanta Riviera Maya is vast, and navigating the property requires utilizing their shuttle system. While shuttles are frequent, be prepared for some wait times. A network of wooden walkways also connects different areas of the resort, but be cautious as some boards are loose or broken.
Wildlife Encounters:
Nature lovers will delight in the abundance of wildlife roaming the resort grounds. Keep an eye out for playful coatis, colorful birds, and the occasional iguana. The resort even has designated areas for viewing flamingos and crocodiles!
The Timeshare Pitch:
As Vidanta is a timeshare organization, be prepared for the inevitable invitation to attend a "60-minute" presentation. In reality, expect to spend at least three hours (or more!) of your precious vacation time. However, the incentives offered, such as discounts on food and beverages, can be worthwhile.
Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ: A Must-See Spectacle:
Don't miss the opportunity to experience Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ, an incredible show and dining experience located right on the resort property. Choose from show-only tickets, show with hors d'oeuvres, or the VIP dinner experience (highly recommended!). The show is mesmerizing, the food is exquisite, and the overall experience is unforgettable.
Overall Impression:
Despite a few minor drawbacks, our experience at Vidanta Riviera Maya was overwhelmingly positive. The resort offers a luxurious escape with something for everyone. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our clients seeking a truly unforgettable vacation in paradise.
